Game of attrition likely to lead to a draw in Merseyside derby
No Comments

To quote an old cliché, you can cut the tension on Merseyside with a knife this week. After the High Court soap opera, Liverpool’s ownership looks like it has been resolved and with attention diverting back to the pitch just what Liverpool didn’t want, a trip to Goodison is on the cards for this afternoon. Preparation will have been affected and Liverpool travel without Dirk Kuyt, who has played well against Everton in recent seasons. Fernando Torres is still a [...]

After 7 games the ratings table is starting to take shape. I always prefer to have a ratings system that reflects recent form and this can be seen with positive ratings compared with league position for Stoke, Blackburn and Everton. Gambling Man Rating league position value rating 1 Chelsea 1,588 1 0 2 Man Utd 1,359 3 1 3 Man City 1,291 2 -1 4 Stoke 1,124 7 3 5 Arsenal 1,095 4 -1 6 Blackburn 1,086 13 7 7 [...]

First edition of Gambling Man’s Premier League ratings

As promised here is the first of Gambling Man’s ratings table. They are up to date after the 6th round of matches and were based on a starting position which reflected last year’s league position and  move the rating by taking a percentage of the oppositions start of day rating for the result and the goal supremacy. I have run a rudimentary analysis of the ratings position against the teams current league table and displayed it as a “heat index” [...]

Liverpool have got off to a poor start this season and their only away game at Manchester City was a horror show and a three nil loss. With Dirk Kuyt injured, Joe Cole still suspended and David Ngog uncertain to start the bookies are happy to lay Liverpool. Liverpool are 13/10 for a win, a price unthinkable away to Birmingham a year or two ago. This is a tough place to go and this fixture has produced a draw for [...]

Expect a tight game between City and Liverpool

I don’t think Liverpool playing at Eastlands will through the same sort of barrage at them as Spurs did, but neither do I expect City’s offense to be at the height of their powers this early in the season.

Europa Leauge Preview

There are four british short priced favourites playing in the Europa Cup this Thursday. In these situations the bookies expect to take a load of money on the UK team and hardly anything at all on the plucky foreigner. It therefore goes without saying that there is value elsewhere. The same is always true when England play, they are too short with UK bookies and should either be backed with a foreign bookie or opposed. A fun bet I sometimes [...]
