Gambling Man Premier League ratings: round 7
No Comments

After 7 games the ratings table is starting to take shape. I always prefer to have a ratings system that reflects recent form and this can be seen with positive ratings compared with league position for Stoke, Blackburn and Everton. Gambling Man Rating league position value rating 1 Chelsea 1,588 1 0 2 Man Utd 1,359 3 1 3 Man City 1,291 2 -1 4 Stoke 1,124 7 3 5 Arsenal 1,095 4 -1 6 Blackburn 1,086 13 7 7 [...]

Villa good value for a win at White Hart Lane
No Comments

Gambling Man had such a bad record predicting Spurs results early in the season that he gave up tipping for or against them. He did tip a winner when he predicted that Arsenal would qualify at the Lillywhite’s expense in the Carling Cup last week, but overall has had a losing experience with Spurs this season. On the other hand Villa have been rich pickings for Gambling Man who has really tuned in to their performances. He predicted their losses [...]

First edition of Gambling Man’s Premier League ratings
No Comments

As promised here is the first of Gambling Man’s ratings table. They are up to date after the 6th round of matches and were based on a starting position which reflected last year’s league position and  move the rating by taking a percentage of the oppositions start of day rating for the result and the goal supremacy. I have run a rudimentary analysis of the ratings position against the teams current league table and displayed it as a “heat index” [...]

With 6 games now played in the Premier League most ratings systems will be starting to settle down and reflect the form for the new season and I have decided to publish the rankings and points in my ratings table after every weekend.

Villa to sneak home against Wolves

Sometimes when you are doing well betting on a team you should stick at it, not because Gambling Man believes in Lucky streaks but because if you have been betting both with and against a team successfully you will have started to understand what makes a team tick and what doesn’t. Both Wolves and Villa won in the Carling Cup this week which will have given them both a boost. Stan James are offering 9/5 on Villa and with the [...]

Villa to start the rebuilding process
No Comments

Gambling man has made good money this season opposing Aston Villa but for once I intend to go their way. Despite playing poorly they are doing well in the league and have a good track record in this competition, out of Europe and probably with little chance of making a Champions League slot, this competition was made for teams like Villa to gain a trophy and a European slot as they showed by making the final last year. Blackburn on [...]

Stoke to get season up and running with win against poor Villa.

These two midland rivals have both had poor starts to the season but it is interesting to see how this has been reflected in the league table. Villa are the side least deserving of their high league position having been thrashed  three weeks ago by a Newcastle team expected to struggle following their promotion from the Championship and I still cant believe they got a result against Everton. They were also dumped out of Europe conceding three goals at home. [...]

Everton to win at Villa at 2-1

Villa to struggle against Rapid
No Comments

After a good start to the premiership campaign despite the loss of Martin O’Neill the wheels have somewhat come off following a poor away draw to Rapid Vienna and then a 6-0 thumping away at Newcastle on Sunday – a result we predicted here at Gambling Man. The difference to Villa’s form can be explained by the loss of James Milner who made such a difference to Man City in their game against Liverpool on Monday, City’s new found width [...]
