McLaren justifiably favourites at Monza but the value is with Jenson

The Autodromo  at Monza is unique among F1 Venues, long straights and a bumpy track mean  less down force and more straight line speed make for a winning car.

The bookies quite rightly have this as a McLaren track and Lewis Hamilton is best price 19/10 compared with the 4-1, 5-1 and 6-1 you can get on Vettel, Alonso and Webber respectively.

All week the teams have been talking about new front wing tests and the changes that have had to be made to accommodate the new tests and with a set of changes already made at Spa, Red Bull were the biggest losers. Hamilton’s  Woking based team are talking up the change, claiming it has created a performance improvement. Add in the now famous straight line speed of the F duct equipped Silver Arrow and the bookies are probably about right.

The question is why is current world Champion and two times race winner this season Jenson Button so friendless in the market. But for an accident that wasn’t his fault in Spa he would have completed a McLaren 1-2 and been second in the driver’s championship. Button is available at 9-1 in a win only market with Sportingbet and 7-1 with several bookies each way. I can think of any number of scenarios which would see Jenson deliver a race win and a lot more that will see a McLaren 1-2. I shall be having a sizeable each way bet on Button

good qualifying from Button – each way looks a great bet now as he is trading at around 9/4 on Betfair for the win. Lewis is out to 11/2

Thats another F1 winner for Gambling Man, OK it was each way only but if he hadnt have lost down force after being shunted by a Ferrari on the first lap I think he would have won.

The lesson here for Punters is to compare the prices for different drivers in the same team, it always surprises me how the bookies split them based on the previous result even if the reason was a DNF not a poor drive
